What is Search Engine Optimization (SEO)?
SEO is the art and science of constructing
and copywriting your Web site pages in such a manner that search
engines will be more likely to notice them, and more apt to
rank your pages higher for relative search terms.
It also includes any no-cost submissions to
related directories, as well as a link-building
campaign. If implemented correctly, your pages
will be listed within a search engine's free listings - otherwise
known as "organic" or "natural"
listings.
This is referred to as a "free"
process because you're not paying the search engines anything
to get your listing. However, because of increased complexities
and the necessity of getting listed in certain web directories
(especially true for commercial sites which may be required
to pay a submission fee), expert consultants are often hired
and payed to perform the ever-increasingly complex tasks necessary
for a successful search engine optimization campaign.
An important fact to remember is that you cannot expect to
get great results overnight. It takes long-term ongoing campaigns
to get good and sustained editorial (organic) coverage.
If you stop investing time and/or money, you may not see an
abrupt decrease in organic search related traffic, but over
time the results can be devastating.
